Our Story
Cancer Communicator was founded by Sara Fagerlie, PhD, CHCP to accelerate the delivery of critical advances in cancer care.
Dr. Fagerlie brings extensive experience in cancer research, medical journalism, and the development of educational curricula for hematology and oncology professionals. She is an active member of the American Society of Hematology (ASH), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions (ACEHP), International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), and Association of Health Care Journalists (AHCJ).
Her scientific career began in academic research at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Knight Cancer Institute, where she studied the interactions between myeloid and lymphoid cells in Fanconi anemia. She later continued her work on the bone marrow microenvironment in the Transplantation Biology Department at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington.
In 2007, Dr. Fagerlie transitioned to accredited medical education. Since then, she has been a recognized leader in developing hematology and oncology programs for physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Her previous roles include Director of Scientific Services at Educational Concepts Group and Senior Director at Medscape Education, where she led U.S. and global hematology/oncology content development teams.
Dr. Fagerlie earned her PhD in Molecular and Medical Genetics from OHSU and BS degrees in Biochemistry and Mathematics from the University of Washington. She became a Certified Healthcare CPD Professional (CHCP) in 2013.
Today, Dr. Fagerlie leads Cancer Communicator with a clear mission: to close clinical practice gaps and reduce barriers to optimal cancer care through innovative education, modern technology, and effective communication.
